You don't lose a 401k if you are fired or quit. You may
keep the 401k or transfer it (within time limits) to ANOTHER 401k
account WITHOUT IT BEING IN YOUR POCKET FOR EVEN A FEW MINUTES. NOW, if
your employer pays some of the expenses or matching money for you, a now
ex employee, that part will stop. Lots of brokers will be eager to take
your 401k money and put it in another account.
