In response to your post I can offer just a few comments, most of which
you will see as the same as your experience. A few may reach back a
little and you may not understand.
The 80% salary, is a Union/CSX deal. I would expect to pay 80% of the
regular dues for the position as a trainee. I really do not know if
that is real time or wishful thinking, just see it as reasonable.
The harsh temperament of the RR toward not only the public, but it's
employees is widely know. I knew in 1963 and knew it from my father
long before. I wanted the job, and it did not matter how harsh the
environment was, how they treated me, or what my family said.
All I heard was the RR is nothing, they are so old and out of date the
future is aviation, or electronics, don't waste your time there, go to
school. So I gave everyone the finger and went to work Firing, from a
job that paid $30.00 per week on a good week to $488.00 first half
after Cubbing.
The on call procedure will have to be revised to fit the new employee.
How they do it is something that I really want to see. In my simple
mind considering the day's away. The only way to do that is 8 hours
paid for a specified window, (use me or lose me).
The LC is a working employee and I know how that works, however it is
not working for the benefit of the local, they are too busy making a
living, the follow thru is remote at best, and it has been that way
since I was there in the 60's. Goodness fix it.
Pay them- give them an Office, set standards for hours and expenses,
and make it Professional, and do that with a little less CASH going
NORTH to the big boys.
Now before ya say CSX will not pay them, keep the Bennies running, and
hold the seniority secure, are ya sure?
