I've been reading the comments about the yard masters for a while now,
and I kind of thought the comments by some, might have been a bit over
blown. I was wrong.
I haven't been to Roselake in quite sometime. I about fell over when
yard master Marvin Nelms yelled at my conductor for not marking off
immediately when he walked into the yard office. The conductor needed
to use the restroom, and yard master Marvin Nelms accused him of
stealing time because he spent 3 to 4 minutes using the facilities.
You put a man on a hot un air conditioned engine, and the yard master
thinks its ok to yell at the man for choosing to use the facilities in
the yard office verses on that fifthly engine???? We were no where
close to being on over time so we weren't stealing anything.
While my conductor was walking out of the facilities Marvin started
yelling at him to mark off immediately at the yard office, or he'd
charge him with stealing time. Marvin then went on to yell at my
conductor and I that if we had plans on stopping any where on the way
to the hotel, (even though we would be off of the clock) that wasn't
going to happen, because he wasn't going to give us permission to
stop. I asked yard master Marvin Nelms if our van driver was picking
up another crew, and that's why we weren't going to be allowed to
stop for any food on the way to the hotel. Yard master Marvin Nelms
went on a tirade that would make a sailor blush. I was informed by
yard master Nelms that he was in charge, and if I didn't like that, it
was tough****. This was his yard. He calls the crews and the shots.
If we dared to cross him, he'd make it a point to call us for every
piece of shit train with the worst power he could find. And no there
was no crew at the hotel that was in need of the van.
When did the Roselake terminal supt promote his yard masters, including
Marvin Nelms to be in charge of harassing, threatening, and intimidating
the crews on his behalf? Where is the union? Why is the union
allowing the Roselake yard masters, a union contract employee, to
continue with this unexceptionable behavior?
I mentioned Marvin Nelms behavior to the driver. Thinking this was a
one time deal, and he was having a bad day. Apparently this is normal
behavior for most of the yard masters at Roselake. After dealing with
more than one of the yard masters at Roselake, I'm well aware that
this I am God and a member of management attitude isn't just limited
to Marvin Nelms. Quite a few yard masters at Roselake have this
attitude, and like to brag to the other crews which crews they're
going to screw over next.
I, like someone else that posted this question am beginning to
wonder..... when yard masters forget that they are not members of
management, and threaten their fellow union employees, what is the step
we take to remind them that they are contract employees?
