they all pumped at first. Then lots see how they are treated by
management, lots quit. Get job less money, I think the employees that

As a wife of a former CSX conductor/engineer I just wanted to take a
moment to vent and hopefully steer anyone thatís considering employment
with a class 1 railroad far far away! After 14 years with CSX my husband
left the company. The culture which has always been bad has gotten
progressively worse the last few years. Enough so that many 10 plus
year employees have left including my husband. 
     The company treats its employees horribly. Ever heard of paying
for out of service insurance?! Itís something most railroaders pay
every month in case they are fired or suspended. The company literally
goes out of its way to fire you. They canít maintain adequate staffing
and yet try to fire you. Doesnít make much sense huh?! 
    CSX is on attendance policy 7.0 or so. They keep adjusting the
policy, making it more restrictive. Which has actually backfired as it
in itself has been the ďfinal strawĒ for many to leave. 
    The work/life balance is non existent and as with everything else
with this company it has went from bad to horrible the last couple
years. CSX is severely understaffed.  In the name of profits they have
attempted to do more and more with less. Which has put the employees at
a breaking point. People want to have a life outside of work! Yet CSX
expects people to be on call at all times, no set work schedule
whatsoever, spend time away from home at hotels, living a grueling
lifestyle. All this and you get one off day a week!! Just doesnít seem
real does it?! This in itself is the number one reason employee
retention is at an all time low and hiring of new employees is more
difficult than ever. No one in their right mind would start as a new
hire with these conditions. Many other places are hiring with similar
to better payÖhome every day and one does not have the phone ringing
constantly at all times thru the night!  
    CSX needs to have a vast overhaul of their work culture! People
especially now days arenít going to work the same archaic schedule with
hours, being on call and away from home, ect they did 30 years ago.

Stop the madness with coverup.

The hard cold truth facts. 
The Railroads pay good money, but you sell your life to get it. If you
can not hold a 5 day a week spot, them you will work on the road extra
board. On call jobs destroy your health and your home life. Most 5 day
jobs are locals or yard jobs. Yard jobs don't pay squat compared to
long haul. You deal with the devil as you go along.
The railroad medical insurance is not bad! We would never get on the
street policies for what we pay for now. 
You WILL JOIN A UNION! You will NOT BE HAPPY WITH THEIR
REPRESENTATION.
The Railroad will violate your agreements and steal pay from you. They
will abuse you. COLD HARD FACT.
Your health will be pushed to the limit either physically or mentally.
YOU WILL FANTASIZE ABOUT KILLING YOUR EMPLOYER!
Marriages are destroyed by this business. Quality time at home is
negatively effected. Train schedules ARE NEVER RIGHT AND YOUR PHONE
WILL RING AT ANY TIME COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED.SURPRISE ATTACKS ARE
GUARANTEED! Sleep patterns will be a complete mess.

Railroad life is not for everyone. Working condtions can be dangerous
and managers can and do intimidate and harass employees. If you are not
thick skinned, willing to take a beating, freeze, sweat, be up all hours
of the night and day and be away from your home or family overnight,
then this job is NOT FOR YOU!

negative effect on a personís ability to sleep and function properly,
and can result in a number of health problems, including mood disorders
such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective
disorder.

When Hunter Harrison took over cpr, he did not honour any collective
agreements. They looked for stupid minor things to fire you for and
they started with the senior employees to set example to junior people.
Myself pulled out of service twice for nothing. This was the new sheriff
at cnr and csx and other rr. Threw social media the word got out. Who in
there right mind would sign up for rr job. We predicted this would
happen , when you treat employees like shit the word gets out fast.

Years ago for hourly people holiday pay was a good option. Double time
and a half if I remember. You guys in T&E take a screwing being stuck
in the afht. I know you all hate the idea of hourly, but triple time or
something would make it more worthwhile.

Itís not the companies fault. All they are looking at is the bottom
line. They will continue to abuse the contract as long as you let them
get away with it. You have to put the blame on the unions for not
standing up for us. There the ones who should have been looking out for
our best interest. I donít blame the company. They will continue to
jerks us around as far as you let them go. The union leaders have to
stand up and put a leash on these Canadian dogs. Until then nothing is
never going to change.

This has got to be the worst place I've ever worked for.  They are
holding us in the hotel the whole holiday for a junk freight train.  If
you have to, MARK OFF, this company does not care about you!  They are
losing employees and can't get people to work here because they treat
people like shit.  After 23 years, my wife wants me to quit as well. 
This job is really not worth it anymore.

Abused

So from what I read, the vacation time that we all need to keep our
sanity can be reduced if they feel like making us work the first day of
it? Who is to say the SOB wont put you on a temporary vacancy out of
town and keep you on it more than one day of your vacation?  You get
home and get screwed OUT OF THE FULL WEEK and they think it okay just
because you got paid? If our union is backing this crap and not taking
this to the International to fight, we got no choice but to take off
sick before vacation, get FMLA FOR PROTECTION OF OUR MENTAL HEALTH, or
get rid of our union once and for all and elect a new one. The only
thing that keeps me coming back to work is bills and knowing I got
UNION CONTRACT AGREED DAYS to get the hell away from them!

We are sorry to inform you, even though your union agreement states
that you get a weeks vacation, no where in the language does it
GUARANTEE you 7 FULL DAYS!  We know that your vacation starts on
Friday/Saturday at 0001 hours and runs until the following
Friday/Saturday until 0001 hours but that is irrelevant. Even though it
WAS OF NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN that you where forced out of town on your
first day of vacation{Saturday} and did not return until late that
night, we can not allow you to make up the lost time. You will
therefore be marked back up for service on the following
Friday/Saturday at 0001 hours and will observe 6 days instead. You were
compensated for your day of work on Saturday. Therefore you lost NO PAY.
There was no lost compensation. Again, there is no direct binding
language that states that any vacation must be 7 days with no
exceptions!


ARE YOU SHOCKED BY THIS BOYS AND GIRLS? THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING
ON AT THIS TIME WITHIN CSX. YOU BETTER CALL YOUR LOCAL CHAIRMAN RIGHT
NOW AND GET THE BALL ROLLING ON GETTING A PETITION STARTED AND PUTTING
A STOP TO THE ABUSE. WE ALL KNOW WHAT CSX CONSIDERS A WEEK END AND WEEK
DAYS. THEY ARE SO FAR OUT IN LEFT FIELD WITH THIS. ASK ANYONE IN THE
PUBLIC WHAT IS CONSIDERED A WEEK AND THEY WILL TELL YOU 7 DAYS. THE
LEVEL OF ABUSE IN THIS COMPANY JUST KEEPS GROWING! 2022  HAS GOT TO BE
THE YEAR YOU THROW THEM ON THEIR SWORD. YOU HAVE LET THIS PIMPLE ON THE

It's official. I burned it all tonight. All my trains,
pictures,books,flags,horns, hats, shirts..etc. been a conductor for 2
years at this shit hole. Had collected railroad material for 20 yrs,
took 2 yrs of working for the railroad to turn my life long passion for
trains to I don't wanna see another damn train the rest of my life.
Going to work as game warden first of year. Csx suxs!!
