RRJ,
Nice post on train stopping distance. I would just add-- Up Hill. Down
Hill,and level. Then we can add mostly Up Hill, and mostly Down Hill,
Or any combination of these. Now we know why trains are really hard to
stop. 
In my short time on the RR I found that just keeping the speed the same
on both ends was a challenge.
