Primary reason for bad management is bad hiring practices. They hire
other railroad failures, they put green college grads in mgr.
positions, they encourage harassment, they cultivate a class
mentality. It is all inbred from one generation to another. Then it
becomes like cancer in the last stages before it destroys and kills off
the host. I watch dozens of trains a day thunder past my home and wave
at the crew. Most of the time if they see you they give a friendly nod
or a smile or wave back. I always find it amazing that they can be so
friendly when so much negative management crap is going on behind the
scenes.
