Every Local chairman that Iíve encountered is in bed with lower

going on. They can lay off ď Union business ď anytime that they want
without any punishment or loss of pay. Your locals are gossip carriers

The difference is if you're in the utu and you're a marked up
engineer. You can't vote on the contract that you work under. You
will be represented by the utu Lc if you go to an investigation. The
utu Lc will also be the one who writes your appeal.

They must represent you but if he's an asshole he may just go through
the motions.

Nevada AFL-CIO adopts resolution supporting two-person train crews
September 4 ó The Nevada State AFL-CIO adopted a safety resolution in
support of Federal legislation mandating two-person train crews at its
63rd Constitution Convention in Las Vegas on August 29, 2019.

The resolution was submitted by Brother Matt Parker, Chairman of the
BLETís Nevada State Legislative Board. The resolution asserts that the
best way to keep railroads safe is to implement new technology while at
the same time assuring that trains continue to be adequately staffed and
operated by a crew of at least two professionals.

The safety resolution also is critical of actions by the Federal
Railroad Administration. Under the leadership of a corporate-friendly
appointee (former Conrail CEO Ron Batory), the FRA rescinded a proposed
two-person crew regulation and took action to preempt states from
passing their own train crew safety laws.

The resolution reads in part: ďFRAís arbitrary and capricious action in
this matter is to the detriment of the safety of the public, which the
agency is responsible for protecting, therefore making the need to pass
Federal legislation requiring freight train crews of at least two
persons paramount.Ē

BLET and the SMART Transportation Division jointly filed a petition for
review of the FRAís actions in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit. Three states ó California, Nevada and Washington ó have also
filed challenges in the same court.

Brother Parker said many AFL-CIO affiliates in Nevada ďare aghast at
the possibility of freight trains operated by less than two-person
crews.Ē

BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce said: ďI thank the Nevada
AFL-CIO for adopting this resolution, and I compliment Brother Matt
Parker for his diligence on this issue.Ē

A copy of the resolution and a Fact Sheet can be downloaded here (PDF),
and the full text of the resolution is copied below.

Before the 63rd Constitutional Convention of the Nevada AFL-CIO,

A RESOLUTION;

WHEREAS the safety of the public in regard to the risks associated with
the transportation of freight by rail is best served by BOTH
implementing new safety technology AND assuring that freight trains
continue to be operated by a crew of at least two professionals; and

WHEREAS to this end, the Nevada State Legislative Board of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, a member of the Rail
Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, fought for
and successfully achieved legislation in the State of Nevada during the
80th Nevada Legislature requiring freight train crews of at least two
persons; and

WHEREAS the success in achieving this legislation involved the
outstanding support of the Nevada AFL-CIO and its affiliates; and

WHEREAS subsequent to such laws passing in Colorado, Nevada, and
Illinois this year, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), under
the leadership of a corporate-friendly appointee of the Trump
Administration, took action serving no other purpose than to create
preemption of the state laws passed addressing the issue of train crew
size without otherwise addressing the issue; and

WHEREAS FRAís arbitrary and capricious action in this matter is to the
detriment of the safety of the public, which the agency is responsible
for protecting, therefore making the need to pass Federal legislation
requiring freight train crews of at least two persons paramount;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Nevada AFL-CIO and its
affiliates hereby commit to lending their support to the Brotherhood of
Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen as it fights to reverse the adverse
action of the FRA and pass Federal legislation requiring freight train
crews of at least two persons.

Does anyone know what happened that caused them to get crazy about the
radio in the yards? first off if you read those positive ident. rules
they are a little confusing. Do we use mobile base rule or train rule
in the yard. We don't have a train in the yard. Road trains that come
in do. What happened. TM I asked said he didn't hear of anything. I'm
guessing someone didn't hear the count right and didn't repeat it
back so conductor didn't know he heard him wrong. Maybe slammed some
cars, damaged and derailed or something. I say just listen to everyone
else and say what their saying. If they write you up then they have to
bust every one else.

LOCO 20-30

It has been posted on here a hundred times but you morons just don't
get it. Union agreements are in place to protect worker with their
working conditions and procedures for discipline etc. AGAIN FOR THE
HUNDRETH TIME THEY ARE NOT TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR INCOME. YOU ARE NOT
ENTITLED TO BE PAID A CLAIM by a specific TIME unless it has been
agreed upon. When you are screwed out of PAY that is due you because
you were not compensated for a job that you are assigned in your job
description then you have a legitimate gripe for not being paid for
your assigned described work. When you are forced to do extra work or
work out of your assigned job description that is not being screwed out
of your original assigned work. When your work assignment is extended,
added to or whatever and it is considered a violation that should be
paid as a penalty. That is not your negotiated pay for the original
assignment. That is a penalty to the company for violating your
agreement. It is meant to be punishment for forcing you to do more work
that your assignment is described. Too many of you don't want to put in
claims because you complain they wont get paid, they take too long, blah
blah. That's not the point in putting in claims. The point is to try
your best to make them pay for their abuse of the agreement no matter
how little or how long it takes. If they keep violating the same
article over and over and you don't bring attention to it then it your
own fault if it keeps happening. Flood the Unions with paperwork up the
wazoo. Keep reporting the names of supervisors who keep doing it. If
you get to pocket that penalty claim then great. If you don't then be
a man and do what is right and keep pushing the claims and names of the
supervisors who keep raping the agreement. It takes paperwork, It takes
making a stink to get anything done. Again, claims are not to line your
pockets with extra pay if they are penalty claims that are filed because
they forced you to work beyond your agreed job description. As long as
you are paid what has been agreed for your original job the company
thinks you should be happy and just take the rest with your mouth shut.
Show them it doesn't work that way. File the claims and take it one day
at a time!

Hey Labor Day,
I will celebrate this labor day by working
during a mandatory evacuation and being told I cannot mark off weather,
and my lovely union that all the older guys laid the foundation for
remains silent. Not a dam word from anyone. They allow us to be raped
daily and you want us to celebrate and honor the same guys who lie in
bed with the company. You are a fool. 130 dollars a month for what ,
for a silent union that allows the company to rape and pillage us
everyday. Im sorry the battle cry of this union is put a claim in thats
the answer to everything. Let me ask you something. If they don't pay
me a day or a penalty that they owe me and I put a claim in and they
pay it 6 months later, or a year or whenever. What kind of penalty is
that. All I am getting is what I am due anyway the company just pays it
at a later date. What kind of penalty is that for the company. If a guy
works on my house and I don't pay him and lets say he sues me and all
I have to do is pay him what I owed anyway, what kind of deterrent is
that. No if i didn't pay him and he had to sue me there would be way
more penalties involved , but not for this company because the company
runs the union. So you celebrate this sorry ass union if you want but
they disgust me to no end.

Unions are an important part of the fabric of our nation and their
importance is acknowledged each year on Labor Day. Unionized workers
built this great country, including members of the Brotherhood of
Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

Unions improved the lives of all workers by bringing about such
advancements as the Railroad Retirement System, Social Security, the
Federal Employers Liability Act, workersí compensation, paid vacations
and holidays, health insurance, pensions, fair treatment for all,
overtime pay, higher wages, and many other things that the average
American now takes for granted.

Millions of individuals can testify to the advantages of being in a
union. They can tell about the higher wages and health benefits they
receive as a result of being in a union. According to a recent Gallup
poll, 64% of Americans approve of labor unions, surpassing 60% for the
third consecutive year. This is up 16 percentage points from its low
point in 2009. Also, the current 64% reading is one of the highest
union approval ratings Gallup has recorded over the past 50 years.

It is not surprising to me that workers understand they need unions
because they cannot trust their employers to look out for their best
interest. Far too often, employers put profits before people and the
welfare of their employees suffers greatly as a result. This is true in
the railroad industry, especially given its recent push to implement
Precision Scheduled Railroading.

It is an honor and a privilege for me to serve the membership of North
Americaís oldest labor union. On this Labor Day, I ask that you all
join me in honoring those who came before us. Let us not forget the
founding members of our Brotherhood and the struggles they endured,
which laid the groundwork for the lifestyle we enjoy.

And thanks to the ongoing work of the Brotherhood today, BLET members
can be proud of the significant role they play in the American economy.
Letís observe this Labor Day by recommitting ourselves to join together
to preserve and improve upon what we have for the next generation of
locomotive engineers and trainmen, and by doing so honor the legacy of
our founding members.

I wish each of you a happy, healthy and safe Labor Day.
