Fern Lake Rd. provides access for 8-10 residences on two dead end roads. It is highly unlikely the driver was unfamiliar with the area. There is a dog leg on the north side of the tracks going into the residential area. Driving southbound into the residences the field of vision appears to be adequate, especially being mid Winter and the foliage is dormant. The outbound field of vision also appears adequate. There will never be gates or lights at this crossing...the road dead ends and there aren't enough residents to justify the expense. A chainsaw, bulldozer and several loads of clay will straighten out the north side approach. This should have never been scheduled for improvement, I don't think there is anything fishy yet but this bears watching because it might start smelling like pogie if the funding ever becomes available! The three links you posted on the 23RD, how was that CSX's fault? All the accidents were the fault of the drivers or pedestrians. The one in Trenton, OH is particularly egregious. There is no other explanation for the Father's action other than being stupid. To be Frank, there's really not enough info on the Olmstead Falls accident to conclude anything. The Clark County incident was the result of the drivers inattention. The FRA report you linked to in you Feb. 23Rd response to the LPFB was dated 1987 and would require a degree in Physics to understand it or a degree in Mathematics to understand the methodology. So it will cost Illinois $520K to improve the crossing at Fern Lake Rd. Understand this is just their plan and is subject to funding. It may be years before this gets done if it ever gets done. You could have just as easily blamed the State for the Clark County accident. The projected plan was for 2011-2015, had the crossing been high priority, the work would have been bid, awarded and completed by now. View This Article
