Employed as: Locomotive Engineer, for 20-30 years

It is cool riding on a train for about the first 20 minutes. If you
have a good job with benefits and a home life. Why would you consider
giving that up for this?
This life sucks ass. You ask; why don't you quit? Well, because I'm
stuck out here. Instead of going to college I joined the Army. This is
about as good as I can do. I'd trade places with you in a heartbeat.
As bad as I hate it I have it better out here than some. A new hire
anyone with less than say 15 years may or may not have a job at any
given time. If you're a young man don't be foolish there will be
just one man on a train sooner than later. There will be trains fully
automated in the next 20years. RRers will be a thing of the past.
