CSX-Sucks!

Asleep At The Wheel

Casey Jones you'd better,
watch your speed...

"The railroad is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation", many of us have been told, when requesting some extra 'rest' between jobs. Unfortunately, the people that make the railroad move, like all other people, do not operate "24 hours a day, 7 days a week".

Anyone who's worked around the clock has either seen, or experienced first-hand, the inevitable effects of sleep deprivation. Maybe it was you, maybe it was the jitney driver, maybe it was....

The real fun is when someone tries to explain to the crew-caller that they are too tired to go to work.

If you look at the big picture, you have to ask why would people believe
HH is at CSX to save a failing company. The company has posted excellent
profits even after loosing 30% of its revenue from coal.CSX was a little
top heavy in management, but they managed to keep the operating ratio in
the low 70s and still keep expanding its business. Now they are in a
regressive slide for only one purpose,to make them prime for a merger
while the current stock holders take their money and run.Wait till the
next quarter is posted and the stock starts to tank!

Again......big shots make plans for years ahead. Employees & their
unions have to play catch-up. Evidently, the CSX Board Of Directors
wanted Ward out, Headhunter in as CEO. They had to be well aware
of the fact that the CSX rail system is\was unlike the others Harrison
ruled.

I have to commend you on your lengthy but true post. You hit the nail
on the head on how the real dedicated workers feel. I hate to say this
to you but unfortunately you wasted the skin off your fingers and your
valuable time doing it.

People, WAKE UP! You are not getting it!

This is a 70 something year old man who is popping blood clot medicine
pills like they are M&M's. He can not breath on his own like a
healthy person should and he knows his time is limited on the good
green earth. He has been awarded a title of one of the best CEO's in
railroading and is convinced he is the king of railroading. His ego is
the only thing that drives him and keeps him alive today.
He has one last goal before he dies and that is to bring back CSX like
no one has ever done in the past and put one more stone in his crown.
It doesn't matter how much you dog, trash, curse or threaten this man,
he will do what he says he will do no matter how much death and
distruction he leaves behind. He has a certain message he want on his
tombstone and that is one that says." I the great and powerful CEO of
CSX turned it around and went to my grave showing all your asses!"
He is not reasonable. He is ill and he knows it. Ask any doctor. They
will tell you the damage that is done when the brain is constantly
deprived of oxygen. Any person who has sleep apnea will tell you the
damage it does to your heart and organs. He will not go down without a
fight and his last breath. If he has a stroke he will be declared
unable and unfit to continue his position and his right hand man will
take over. In the meantime he has a final stand to make and by god he
will make it.
Remember, this is his last and final mark on this earth and he will not
go down with out a fight. Now stop thinking of this man as a man who is
just a jerk or a...hole. He is worse. He is a man making his last
stand on this earth and that my good people is worse than a rabid dog
pushed in the corner! You have no idea what you are dealing with. Its
higher than you and will take the support of all your union heads along
with all federal agencies to bring some sense to all of this. In the
meantime do not give up hope. No one lives forever.

Railroad workers at CSX face the dictates of Wall Street

CSX railroad workers denounce Wall Street plundering
https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2017/08/01/rail-a01.html

Mr Harrison,
You personally dont know me, and I personally dont know you, but your
comment of personnel "push back" has struck me in the wrong manner.
I, as a dedicated 8 year employee and 4th generation railroader, take
that very personal. I have held many jobs within CSX ranks over the
last 8 years, including Conductor,Swithchman(RCO), Yardmaster, Retarder
Operator, and Locomotive Engineer. I come to work at
night, holidays, weekends,in the snow, ice, thunderstorms, you name it Im
still there. When you 1st became CEO things looked very very promising.
We went to 2 man hump jobs, Engineer Foreman/Brakeman bowl jobs. My
terminal was absolutely moving the freight. My terminal alone was
processing,( thats arriving,inspecting,humping,classifying,and
departing) anywhere from 2000-2200 cars in a 24 hour period. Thats 2nd
to none on your system. We would rival your "premier" hump number
wise on a daily basis. After time though you all fired all our
managers, cut jobs, piled the freight in,( 1000 cars every 8 hours),
and expected us to move it with half the manpower. After it was all
said and done, we were told we were failures and we would be shut off.
The upper management has done this with every hump you have closed thus
far. Its not only unfair, but makes those of us who actually have pride
as railroaders, well lets just say its a ding in the old paint. Also
our new management that most have came from the CN are more like mob
bosses, than leaders. Men are constantly threatened with their jobs on
the line, we are told to switch cars like back in the 50's when
injury/fatality rates were high, and its just a matter of time before
we have a headline injury or fatality. Men are getting cussed up one
side and down the other, and shown no absolute professionalism in the
least little way. Even with that aside, Ill give you and whomever else
that reads this a little insight as to why their are service
disruptions on csx. Ill just go over some speaking points from quotes
you have put out.
“Together, we will implement precision scheduled railroading — a model
proven to improve safety, create better service for customers, produce
a proud and winning culture for employees, and generate exceptional,
lasting value for shareholders,”
This is the farthest from the truth. Your increase in pace, to try to
compensate the flat switching instead of humping, is going to end with
injury and possibly someones life. Its already proven this is not,and
will not work as far customer service. Morale is at an all time low.
Our stock, well, ya know how thats going.
The prevailing view in the rail industry is that more locomotives,
more cars and more crews allow for the movement of more volume.
Precision railroading challenges this view,”
You have stored alot of locomotives. Took away alot of switch engines
as well. Where Im from we are not "flat landers" if you will. If and
when we get to the customer, we now run the risk of not being able to
service them due to not having enough power to do the work at hand.
Also almost every one of your road trains has foreign power on them.
What your making up in storing locomotives, your paying right back out
in horsepower hours to another railroad. Crew availability system wide
is an absolute joke. You have intermodal trains sitting for days at a
time, due to either conjestion, or crew availability. You have cut
extraboards, and regular jobs to below minimum standards. Also you have
cut off the pushers system wide. Im gonna tell ya a little secret you
may or may not know though. One of my former territories has had a
pusher district for over 160 years, its the steepest mainline grade,as
side from saluda, east of the mississippi. You cut the assignments off,
but they are calling extra jobs off of the freight pools, and extraboards
there to push trains, every 12 hours. They are just advertised as extra
turn jobs, and not pushers. Trust me though they are still there. Every
terminal you have piled the freight on, has a back log of traffic
sitting in sidings, waiting to be switched. I have read your book and
alot does make sense but no two things are alike. CP was a majority
bulk hauler from their reports, as we are a major mixed manifest
hauler. We are not a place where blocks of cars can ride a 1000 miles
across the plains before it needs to be classified again. If your a
brain surgeon, and Im a spine surgeon, does that mean we can do open
heart surgery together? Im not undermining your CEO abilities, but from
where I and the rest of your workforce stands, its the upper management
that has this place in the turmoil that its in. I understand you did
not need 12 humps, but your cut and slash of 8 humps, 2 of them I know
being major players, is borderline absurd. The old saying of "
Attitude reflects leadership" comes to mind, and to be blunt your
"pushing the blame" off on your employees, just shows what style of
leader you are. Everyone in my terminal, and for the majority system
wide are doing all they can do,to try to make this happen, but its
going to fail because you are leading us this way. CSX was a very
profitable railroad, and I personally think if you could blend some of
CSX's old methods, with a blend of "Presicion Railroading" we as a
whole would be unstoppable. Either way it makes me no difference . If I
get told by my local "Capo" to go run an engine of the drawbridge
tomorrow while its open, well I will because Im a team player, always
have, and always will.
 Sincerly,
 Well I best not say.

I work on the OTR industry and my boss also is a RR customer for bulk
plastic resins that thankfully we get via the NS or BNSF. As of last
night my boss had 2 teams doing nothing but running UPS trailers
between Boston and Chicago as fast as they can turn and burn the
suckers as even the Water level route was getting congested they have
been on that for a week. Our customers in the south have been
screaming for whatever we can come up with for them in the way of raw
materials that CSX hauled for them. JB Hunt Schiender Fed Ex are
screaming for anything that can move a trailer or container to get
their stuff moved anywhere CSX goes and are moving as much as they can
to NS. 90% of the drivers at my company are forgoing their first
weekend at home this year why our customers need serviced as CSX has
dropped the freaking ball and we have to pick up the slack. Spot rates
aka the rates for a truck in major metro areas were CSX has melted down
are up as much as 70% for trucks to get the freight into and out of
those areas. My hazmat boys are running out of hours from trying to
keep up with deliveries needed at water plants CSX was supposed to
serve with chlorine for water purification.

I hope the BOD at CSX or the STB comes to their senses and runs him out
soon. The OTR industry can only pick up the slack on major shippers for
a while before our drivers wear out It takes 4 trucks to equal 1 boxcar
or tank car load. We just don't have the carrying capacity we need
help and I am not sorry to say that. My drivers are going to be worn
out in a month running flat out. Yes even the OTR industry has a
breaking point and a meltdown of a Class 1 Railroad on the east coast
would be very close to what would bring us to it.

Hoggers

Pay attention to your air pressure. Been noticing a lot of these long
trains have been showing 92-95 on the rest and the break pipe is up
around 92. Been getting this kind of power alot. Call the mechanical
desk if you can't change it. It's been slowly happening over the
last few months. I think they been ordered to slowly turn it up hoping
we won't notice to get ready for winter montbs. Bet your bottom dollar
it's an TH move. Few says 90 pds for freight. PERIOD! Report this
crap!

The company moving all the dispatchers back to Jax is going about as
smooth as everything ole HH is changing.

I think they finally realized there are a lot more of us that aren't
moving down than they expected.

Friday they contacted all 30 of the Huntington dispatchers that got
screwed over last year when they killed the division and asked if they
would be interested in coming back to dispatching. Apparently each of
them in their own creative way told them NO.

Well the moves start on September 1st, although no one actually knows
who is supposed to show up that day because the company refuses to talk
to the union about it.
So expect your dispatching to go downhill here soon. You'll have a
bunch of people scrambling to be trained on desks they've never
worked before. And sometime soon they'll have to be a large influx of
brand new dispatchers hired and trained... And we all know how much fun
that is

Had 3 of my neighbors come by the house and ask me what was going on.
Saw it all over the news about avon being shut down and wanted to know
how if I lost my job. Said they thought it was crazy and wanted to know
who came up with the decision. Of course had to explain this precision
crap and HH. Everyone thinks he is nuts! My neighbors are freaking out.
